Working on a Network Working on a network allows you to have access to shared file and print services. Instead of having only your C: drive and your floppy drives(s) to save to and retrieve from, you have several other drives (some being shared drives with other members of your workgroup). There will likely also be one or two networked printers that you have departmental access to
Note: You have full rights to the files on any shared network drive -- you can create, modify and delete your own files, but you can also modify and delete the files that have been created by others!! Be careful! Why not on my C: drive? Working on a network affords you several benefits over a standalone PC: · your files are being backed up nightly if saved to a network drive · shared network drives means less diskette traffic and hence a decreased possibility of virus infections · when you upgrade your PC, your personal files do not have to be copied from your old system as they're on a network drive · your documents are available to you from any other workstation on network if saved to a network drive · your documents are safe in the event of a hard drive failure
