Q. I
was doing email stuff and searching the internet when all of a sudden everything
got much smaller - even the icons on the desktop. Info in the bars at top and
bottom are much smaller, as well as the info in the drop down menus. Even web
pages are condensed. How do I restore to print that I can see easily?
Dell Dimension 4700 with Windows XP sp2
A.
It sounds like the
resolution of your machine changed. Certain programs can
change the resolution "for you", but they normally change it back when they exit
and I have not heard of a web site being able to do it before.
To change the
resolution,
right-click anywhere on the desktop (not on an icon)
and select the "Properties" option. Click to the "Settings" tab and drag the
slider in the "Screen resolution" section to the left to select a smaller
resolution, which will make everything appear larger. Click the "Apply" button
and you will probably see a prompt asking you to confirm that you can see your
screen still. If so, click the "Yes" button.
If your screen goes completely black, do not panic, in about 15 seconds it will
come back. If it does that, it means that the value you selected is not
supported by your monitor, select a different resolution and try again. Keep
trying this until you find the resolution you prefer.
Let me know if you need anything else.
